How to split fuel cost between passengers

Decide what is shared, then divide the same trip total fairly.

Choose who is included

Calculate the trip fuel total, open the extra options and enter the number of people sharing the cost. Include the driver if the driver is contributing an equal share. A $90 fuel estimate split among 3 people is $30 per person. If 3 passengers pay and the driver does not contribute, the sharing count is still 3, even though 4 people are travelling.

Handle the return journey once

If your distance is one-way and the same route is used back, select Include the return journey. That doubles the distance and the estimated fuel cost. If you have already entered the complete round-trip distance, leave that option off. For different outbound and return routes, add their distances before entering the total, or calculate each leg separately and combine the costs.

Separate fuel from other costs

TripFuel splits only the estimated fuel amount. Agree separately whether tolls, parking, vehicle hire or other expenses are shared. Per-person results round to cents, so the rounded individual amounts can differ slightly from the exact total when multiplied back. For an actual settlement, use receipts and allocate any leftover cent explicitly. The calculator provides an estimate and does not collect payments or send money to travellers.
